A new business programme for Northern Ireland called ‘The Profit Margin’ has been launched by experienced broadcaster, and former BBC Business Editor Jim Fitzpatrick.

‘The Profit Margin’ which is sponsored by First Trust Bank is a 20 minute audio programme that focuses on issues relevant to the business community in Northern Ireland and will target anyone with an interest in local business matters . Listeners will be able to access the show on a weekly basis directly via iTunes podcast, Twitter, Facebook and email subscription starting on Friday 17th October.

Listeners can expect analysis and insight about a range of issues relevant to the local business community, as well as a more in-depth look at the business news making the headlines each week. The programme will feature analysis around key business issues from a team of experts as well a regular ‘Business of the Week’ slot. It will also invite local start-ups and entrepreneurs to send in their own 30sec ‘Elevator Pitch’ with the best one chosen to be broadcast as a part of the show. The programme, which has been made possible with overall sponsorship support from First Trust Bank as well as additional support from the University of Ulster Business School, will combine fresh insight and engaging guests in an accessible format to suit individual consumption needs.

Speaking about the launch of ‘The Profit Margin’, Jim Fitzpatrick, said:

“The Profit Margin’ seeks to fill the business and economics coverage gap we have within the mainstream broadcast media. While it will be a champion for business interests, it will be tough and challenging, controversial and engaging. The show will be very much editorially driven and I’m looking forward to tackling some of the most important and controversial issues facing companies in NI today. I believe that the format of the show means it will be accessible to the target audiences at a time and place that suits them. Over time we will also build a wealth of local business insight and analysis that can be accessed online time and time
again. ”

Des Moore, Head of First Trust Bank said:

“First Trust Bank is delighted to be the lead sponsor of ‘The Profit Margin’ as we believe its pro-business ethos is vitally important at this time as we seek to encourage more local entrepreneurs and support more businesses to grow and develop here. Keeping relevant business issues front and centre is vital if we are to rebalance the local economy and we hope the local business community will find this platform both interesting and
beneficial.  Jim is a well-respected and experienced broadcaster with a strong handle on the local business scene and we look forward to listening to the show every week to hear him and his contributors tackle some of the most pressing issues facing the economy in Northern Ireland.”

University of Ulster, Professor Marie McHugh, Dean of the Ulster Business School said:

“We are extremely pleased to be involved in ‘The Profit Margin’. With our deep seated commitment to the growth and development of the regional economy, our involvement with Jim and First Trust Bank in this venture is a good example of how we work with business, for business.”
