Cool & Downtown Breakfast Team Help Kids Wake up to Happy Christmas
Downtown Radio/Cool FM’s children’s charity Cash for Kids has kicked off its festive “Mission Christmas” toy campaign this week with sponsors Harry Corry.
‘Mission Christmas’ is a nationwide campaign which will see all 17 branches of Harry Corry and over 500 other businesses across Northern Ireland act as “drop off points” for the public to donate a new toy or gift for a disadvantaged child this Christmas, who might otherwise wake up to nothing.
Cash for Kids Charity Manager, Stephanie Laverty explains:
“According to the latest NI Poverty Bulletin, 96,000 children in Northern Ireland – that’s 1 in 5 kids – are living in absolute poverty.* At Cash for Kids it’s our mission to support these children. It’s incredible that as the economy starts to recover there are still so many families here who are really struggling and who can’t have a happy Christmas.
"We’re looking for donations of new and unwrapped toys, clothes, games – to keep the Christmas dream alive for these children”
Mark Corry of campaign sponsors Harry Corry added, ““Christmas is such a special time of the year and it is important that we think about less fortunate children and what memories some will make this Christmas if we don’t help.”
Last year the campaign helped to ‘deliver Christmas’ to almost 5,000 children in Northern Ireland but Campaign Manager, Stephanie Laverty expects the demand this year to be greater than ever:
“Each year the number of applications for kids to receive gifts from the campaign gets bigger and bigger. Since 2011 we have quadrupled the number of children we have helped – if demand continues to grow in the same way we could be facing requests for up to 10,000 children this year who will receive nothing without our help!”
All gifts will be collected and sorted by age before being distributed to lists of local children. If you don’t have time to pick up an extra gift you can make a cash donation online or in Harry Corry stores; all donations received go towards ensuring that no child who has applied to Cash for Kids for support in Northern Ireland goes without this Christmas.
