2012 Innovation Founder of the Year Unveiled
Following public nominations and a subsequent judging panel, we can finally announce the winner of the Innovation Founder of the Year Award.
Tom Eakin receives the Award for 2012 in recognition of his extraordinary success as founder of TG Eakin Ltd, a Northern Ireland-based medical devices manufacturer. The judging panel believed that Tom was a very deserving recipient, in recognition of his contribution to building and shaping our local economy and significantly improving the quality of life of many people across the world.
You can hear Tom’s story first-hand, as the Keynote Speaker at this year’s 25k Award Gala Dinner, being held for the first time at Titanic Belfast, on 27th September.
The Innovation Founder of the Year Award recognises the efforts of entrepreneurs whose innovative ideas and positive contribution to the community have helped put Northern Ireland innovation on the map. The Award’s sponsors, Bank of Ireland, offered extra support by hosting a lunch for the ten finalists of the 25k Award, at which Tom Eakin was presented with the Award.
TG Eakin Ltd, founded in 1974 when Tom worked as a pharmacist in Dundonald, is today a leading medical device manufacturer, dedicated to the production of high-quality skin protection products for use in stoma and wound care across the world. Eakin Holdings, with factories in Wales and Northern Ireland, employs over 200 people, exports to over 30 countries worldwide and in 2010 received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Exporting Achievement.
In 2011 Tom himself was recognised as the ‘Family Business Director of the Year’ as well as runner-up in the ‘Overall Director of the Year’ at the UK IOD Director of the Year Awards.
Tom’s story illustrates what is possible if innovators can be motivated to act on their inherent desire to innovate. We hope that by showcasing Tom’s incredible story that we can inspire more like him to come forward to realise their full potential. At the 25k Award Gala Dinner, Tom will join other special guests in addressing an audience of more than 250 executives, entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, and academics.
